Summer is coming in for a landing, Westport! We have our usual see-saw between cold raw days and warm, sunny dreamy days, the mix that brings drifts of flowers, juicy tomatoes, and strolls that fill the senses! Soon the Crabapple trees throughout town will be dripping with fragrant blossoms. Can’t wait! All of the businesses and organizations in town are also spilling over with cultural offerings to delight the mind, soul and heart.

~ There’s still time to participate: The Spirit of Place art show will be reborn this year as an open studio tour, and ongoing virtual tour, in July! If you are an artist residing in Westport or Wadhams (only) and are interested in participating, please submit your information online HERE! We want to see what you create!

~ Don’t miss it: This year’s Memorial Day Service will take place on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25th at 9am in Ballard Park, with speakers, morning refreshments, and golf-cart transportation to anyone who needs it. Come honor those who made enormous sacrifice for our country.

THE ESSEX FOOD HUB IS TEMPORARILY MOVING WHILE UNDER RENOVATION!

Wow! Look at this new vision of the Essex Food Hub! The market is closed in its current location and will reopen in early June while reno is underway, at 12 Champlain Avenue, the former Ernie’s Market. Keep your eye on Facebook and their website for developing details!

The market is relocating because the hub is gearing up to break ground on the first phase of its renovation and expansion to better support regional farms and producers. The construction and resulting capacity honor the spirit of a former building occupant, the Dairylea Cooperative, which provided raw milk bottling and distribution for local dairy farmers.

And just like that, Westport has a new business! Of course, it wasn’t easy: many months were spent planning, preparing, painting, gathering artist’s treasures, renovating the space..and it is truly a sight to see. A large appreciative crowd showed up for the ribbon cutting on Saturday May 9th, and enjoyed celebrating the opening of this collection of fine jewelry and locally made artist’s creations. Finding gifts for your loved ones (and yourself!) is now even more of a pleasure! Welcome, Lizzie!
