It’s been an exciting summer, Westport! Change happens every moment as the days run from super hot, super wet, to dry and clear and everything in between! Despite that, the green things are growing with a vigor like never before, and flowers abound.

The Alliance team has spent some dynamic hours working together to celebrate community in the midst of all the flux! July brought a fantastic three-day America’s 250th celebration that surprised and delighted us all, and this weekend is our annual Town-Wide Yard Sale, which grows bigger every year. It’s time for the Second Westport Comprehensive Plan Public Workshop on Wednesday, August 12, so please take advantage of this opportunity to add your voice to the conversation!

Find your new treasure this Saturday the 8th in Westport and Wadhams! There are over 20 participating households! The map is now available on our website, and a printed version will be available at K&D Deli, the Bessboro Shop, participant locations and other places to be announced. Sunday will be ‘Free Stuff Sunday’, where participating households will put out items for free in a designated location.

It’s that time of year again..here comes the Adirondack Harvest Festival! Contribute to its success and volunteer for a role that fits you, and get a t-shirt and lunch voucher in return! And best of all, lots of fun at one of our most popular and social events that celebrates our Adirondack abundance!

WESTPORT’S AMERICA’S 250TH CELEBRATION WAS A BLAST!

What fun we all had during our three-day July 4th extravaganza! Friday Night Lights Over the Lake, which was literally thrown together after the unexpected passing of our pyrotechnician, was a huge and surprising success.

HUGE thanks to everyone who stepped up to the plate to make this happen! We could have not done it without you: the Westport Federated Church, Winton’s 1898 Tavern, K&D Deli, Jim Carroll of Overtime Events, Wyatt Hackett (Magician), Joe Ferris (Caricature artist), Maiz Vargas Sandoval Fire Dancers, and all WWCA and community Volunteers.

We had a great crowd for the July 4th parade, and perfect weather! Special thanks to the Westport Fire District for helping direct traffic and keep people safe, to Ernie LaPine for his incredible emcee skills, Jim Carroll and Dan Faber for excellent sound, Jasper + Ratio for magical face painting, the Mountain Echo Band, Russ Bailey Band+ Piotr Barcz for sharing their top-notch musical talent in Ballard Park, Wayne Bartrow for generously helping with the building of Cardboard Boats, the Ballard Park Association for use of the park for the concerts, and as always, the Westport Library Association for the annual use of the Library Lawn.

THE SPIRIT OF PLACE OPEN STUDIO WEEKEND AND VIRTUAL TOUR WAS A HIT!

The first year of the new Spirit of Place Open Studio Weekend and Virtual Tour was a a big success, and spoke volumes about the wealth of artistic talent in our area. Huge thanks to all artists who participated! Some locations had upwards of 21 visitors in a day.

We will continue to evaluate what is best for this event in the future, and if you have ideas to share or would like to volunteer, please contact our administrator, Marisa. In the meantime please check out the virtual tour, and if you are a local Westport/Wadhams artist, we can still add you to the website.
