Ahhh..life has quieted down from the holiday rush, we’ve come out the other side of the January thaw and we’re easing back into the thick of a cozy Adirondack winter. No one’s sleeping in this town, though…Westport is truly hopping with options for gathering over great food, drink, activities indoors and out, education and world-class entertainment!

We’re putting together a fantastic July 4th celebration this year for the occasion of America’s 250th, and want to make sure everyone has the resources they need to fully participate! the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism has a complete toolkit that businesses can take advantage of for branding, advertising, and attracting visitors. SPECIAL EVENTS

Saturdays (every other) starting January 17, 2:30pm : Fireside Chats! This is a series of conversations by the fireplace with local residents who have had a marked influence on our community. This Saturday features Bill Johnston, longtime local resident and community cornerstone. Future guests will include Martha Swan, Dee Carroll, and Steph Larsen.

Sundays, 3pm: the Westport Library and the Depot Theatre present Play Readings! Feb 15: Cabin Fever, March 8: Rounding Third.

Tuesdays, Feb 3, March 3, April 7, May 5. 7pm: “From Page to Stage”, a Seagle Festival Community Program. Each session will feature a lively 60-75 minute discussion of one of Seagle’s four productions from its upcoming summer season, which will use compelling storytelling, musical excerpts, and a brief history of each work to delve into the literary and historical inspirations behind each production, from works like “Dead Man Walking” to Meredith Wilson’s “The Music Man”.” 

Tuesday, Feb 10, 7pm: The Gurrena Fellowship Recital from the Musicians of Meadowmount featuring Hiu Sing Fan.

The comedy continues with Andy Hanes this Saturday, January 17, at 7pm! Lighten up and join the laughter while enjoying some of Taylor’s fine fare: In addition to the regular menu, this week they have two soup specials (curry red lentil w pita and black bean w a banana pepper corn cake) and of course cozy Knocktails.

Wednesday Jan. 21, 6-7:30pm: Silent Book Club. Sunday, Feb 1, 2pm: Fiction Book Club ~ Heart the Lover by Lily King. Sunday, Feb 8, 2pm ~ Sunday Salon, a staged reading of a work-in-progress by Patience Whitman. And last but not least, Sunday Feb 15, 2pm: Sunday Salon: Poetry Money by local poet/author Christopher Locke.

Are you an experienced gardener eager to contribute to our community this upcoming gardening season? Then Flowers Plus! needs you to help keep our public gardens vibrant May-October and guide our helpers on Volunteer Days. Estimated work is three hours/week, 70 hours for the season at $25/hr.
