Westport is HOT in August!

The dog days of summer are here..and Westport is in the middle of a heat wave of activity and summer fun : not least of which is the 176th Essex County Fair on August 13-17! Check out their website for detailed schedules of each day. Everyone is excited about our 2nd Annual Town-Wide Yard Sale on August 9th from 9am-3pm, with the brand new Buy Nothing Sunday the next day : when items that don’t sell are offered for free at participating venues.

The Depot Theatre main stage performance this month will be the Million Dollar Quartet from August 7-24. The Ballard Park Concert Series continues into mid August, and Game Nights are on Wednesdays, 6-7:30 pm in the park, where you can have fun with friends playing Cornhole, Badminton, Bocce and more. The Mill and Portside both have full (and impressive!) live music lineups all month (Meredith Monk in Westport? Whaaat? )..mark your calendars! CATS CELEBRATES NEW OFFICE LOCATION WITH A RIBBON CUTTING AND OPEN HOUSE

On Thursday, July 24th, the Alliance performed a Ribbon Cutting at the new Champlain Area Trails Office at 6470 Main Street, and everyone celebrated with an open house and refreshments. Congratulations, CATS!

What an amazing Meet the Artists Reception at the Spirit of Place Art Exhibit/ Sale at the Westport Heritage House on July 10th! A delicious culinary spread catered by Trigo fueled all the great conversation about art and life, while the community gathered to appreciate (and purchase) the prodigious artwork on view by 57 regional ADK artists. This event becomes larger and more successful every year, from the great efforts of Lora Langston and the entire Heritage House Committee, with support from the Essex County Arts Council! the Spirit of Place Exhibit is open until September 1st, and hours are 10-3 Monday-Sat, 1-3pm on Sundays, closed on Tuesdays.

SAFE ROADS COMMITTEE AWARDED AARP GRANT!

We are thrilled to share that we were selected to receive an AARP Community Challenge grant with funding provided by Toyota Motor North America. In partnership with the Town, State DOT, volunteers, landowners, local nonprofits, and businesses, we’re working to improve pedestrian safety through beautification and infrastructure projects. With this $25,000 quick-action grant, the Town of Westport will benefit from enhanced crosswalks, improved signage, new benches, and more green spaces.

We’re so excited for our 2nd Annual Town-Wide Yard Sale, and new this year, Buy Nothing Sunday!

-Deadline to sign up is AUGUST 3.

-The Heritage House will be a sales venue for folks who want to set up off of their personal property. Sellers are responsible for their own tables, etc, need to be present through the day, and will take home anything that doesn't sell by the end of the day. There is NO buy Nothing Sunday at the Heritage House.

-BUY NOTHING SUNDAY is the next day, at participating venues. There is no map for this: folks will have a sign at their place indicating that items left out in a particular area are free.

-Venue maps are in process and will be available at the Heritage House, the Library, and various other public places, around Thursday, August 7th.

-The map will also be available on our website, www.gowestportny.com

CHAZY-WESTPORT COMMUNICATIONS HOSTS ARTIE DODGE MEMORIAL BENCH UNVEILING ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 31!

Come join the celebration of the inaugural Flowers Plus! Memorial Bench honoring Arthur "Artie" Dodge and his many selfless contributions to the town and people of Westport.

The bench unveiling will take place on the lawn of Chazy Westport Communications and will include speakers from the town (Ike Tyler, Alyssa Carroll, Pat Troyan) as well as members of Artie Dodge's family.

The Westport Library continues to delight in August, with Children’s Story and Craft time on Saturdays, Monday night movies, and the Writer’s Group every other Thursday. And, it’s just a beautiful space to work, read and gather in, while its REAL clock chimes away the hours. What a treasure!
